Next year, we will be once again having our annual awards! However, we would like your opinion on the matter to pick which fandom(s) that will be open for nominations. This is the place where we would like to hear all opinons.

The first would be that we keep doing Final Fantasy VII fan fiction solely. This means that we will continue to run the awards with only Final Fantasy VII fan fiction (except crossovers).

The second is that we pick another Final Fantasy fandom to do for the coming year's awards. This means that we will not have a Final Fantasy VII based awards, and another Final Fantasy (VIII, IX, X, XII) would be the sole category.

The third option is that we continue to do Final Fantasy VII fan fiction awards, but in addition to another Final Fantasy fandom. This would mean that we will have both Final Fantasy VII and another Final Fantasy running at the same time.


We would appreciate all opinions and ideas.

I would like to put in that the reason we're considering adding an additional fandom is to let awards accrue in the FFVII fandom. We're running out of goodfic. >.< Haha.

I feel that FFVII is a huge fandom. Are we really running out of fics that quickly? If necessary, okay, bring in another fandom. However, I'd like to keep the focus on FFVII if possible.

Yeaaaah, I can't help but feel that VII is really weaved into the GA, I'd rather not take it out entirely. Stella is right, imo - there's a LOT of fic out there. I don't really think we're running out of good stories, and I think that the time between each awards is enough for any replenishing to be done. I'd really rather not take the focus off of VII. :3

I agree with Stella and La - it'd be sad to take FFVII completely out of the awards, but if you felt it would lessen the demand that's put solely on the FFVII fandom, and allow the good stories to build up, then maybe doing two fandoms alongside one another would be a good compromise.

Final Fantast VII awards - Main and my pref. is a Final Fantasy X vintage awards.

FFVII and another FF would be best I think. FFVII started the Genesis Awards and it wouldn't make much sense to take it completely out. However, the lack of quality in FFVII has been rampant recently and we need time to let the fandom rest a bit. A dual awards would be an acceptable compromise.

Whoops, forgot to specify. FFX is quite popular and since it's hinted to be connected to VII, it would be a logical choice.

I say we keep FF7. Because it's what I associate with Genesis Awards and also because it's the only one I've played.
I think 7 + another one would be nice. No preferences as to what the "another one" should be, I'll just go with what the majority wants.

I think we should definitely keep the FFVII fics, but It'd be good to add in other FFs too. It would give us a little more variety.

Introduce new blood (i.e. other fantasies), but keep FFVII in there, because lots of people hear about the Genesis Awards thru its associaction with good ff7 fics

As long as the FFVII part stays I don't care if we add additional fandoms.

Maybe I'm a loser, but I'm not a fan of change. We have a good thing going here, and I think there is plenty of good FFVII fics out there. Maybe they aren't as spectacular as the classics, but maybe it's a matter of not holding them up against the really exceptional ones and appreciating them for being good in their own right.

Of course, I wouldn't be the one to ask; I'm not particularly involved in the awards themselves.

Personally, I think we should definitely keep VII as part of the awards--it's the foundation that started it all, so it wouldn't be right without it.

Still, I think adding another FF wouldn't hurt at all. I'm for FFX.

I'm with Lynn. I think there are plenty of good fics out there that have yet to be nominated (or win). And if we did add another fandom I would suggest limiting the categories on it for the judges sake and to keep focus on FFVII.

I think that really covers the main categories of fics.

This way the focus and majority is still on Seven.

I think it should be FF7 plus another FF fic. If you look on fanfiction...Final Fantasy 7 contains the largest amount of fics. It would be a shame to just put it aside for a year. I think including another Final Fantasy would add a bit more variety and bring more attention to GA.

To all the people saying "FFVII is a huge fandom, it can't be running out of fics that quickly" -- no, but think about this. Our nominations' publishing dates only go back so far. A lot of the fics in the fandom are too "old" to be nominated. That is a problem and shortens our available noms. Also, the more fic there is, the harder it is to find good ones.

Thinks of it this way too - if we keep the FFVII awards and tack on another one (say those FFX "vintage" awards Fear talked about that I particularly like the sound of), we will be expanding our userbase, getting ourselves more well-known, and bringing in more fans who will want to nominate good fanfictions that we've overlooked.

I really don't see what the big deal is about making a small change and putting in another Final Fantasy judging section. I really don't think it'll be that big of a deal. If it doesn't work out, we won't do it again. Why not?

EDIT: Also, lemme just say that a lot of you guys didn't have to read/judge the noms this year, and ... well. There was a lot of trash. And a lot of GA members did not nominate much of anything. I know in a lot of categories, Sai and I were scrambling to find good fic to be judged. This is a problem. If this doesn't indicate we should expand, then what does?

As long as we stick with doing VII too, I don't see that it matters a whole lot one way or another if we decide to try something else on the side. Personally, I'm only familiar with VIII, X, and XII a little, so that's as far as my expertise goes, but I have no real opinion on expanding or not expanding.

There are ways in which it would definitely be a good idea, though. Ways that other people have already named.

I also think the focus should be FFVII and other (specifically X). Pen is right in that the nominations this year were a little underwhelming, especially considering that we were advertising a lot more than before. However, people come to GA BECAUSE of FFVII fanfiction right now. And considering the changes to the awards, I can already think of fics to nom next year. But expanding to new territory would do us good, I think.

JUST as a topic for discussion, you guys can decide what you think, but what about Kingdom Hearts?

The reasoning being of all the connections with FFVII that were purposefully added into the series.

I can't really speak for the other Final Fantasies as I don't KNOW any of the others.

I'm sad to agree with Pen's argument that indeed, some cats this year were just...lacking in their quality. Sometimes, it even became painful to read through some of them and it made me doubt the standards of FF7 fanfic these days. Though I think that expanding our awards to encompass others might just spread us too thin. But then again, I guess I'm the only one who hasn't touched any other FF game.

I've seen quite a few people on this page saying that the whole reason why people come is to read good FF7 fanfiction, and it's true. As one of the newer members of the board, I too was drawn here because Sai (I think) was recruiting on her page and it did say something about "FF7 fanfics" and "awesome" in the same sentence. I think we HAVE to keep FF7 in the awards, though I'm for not having the other Final Fantasies, unless we have a good many judges capable of handling the other fandoms.
